Do you have some perfectly good stuff lying around that you promised yourself you’d donate? Have you been meaning to clear out your garage for months? Do you feel guilty every time you drive by a yard sale, and think, “I should do that, and give the money to a good cause”?
If you answered yes to these questions, the Sierra Club wants to help you — by getting you to help them: sell your stuff on Facebook Marketplace and designate the proceeds to go to the Sierra Club Foundation.
In their latest e-newsletter, they say that if every Facebook member sold a single $10 item and then donated the money, they could raise over $1 billion. Which kind of explains why there is so much “cause-based” marketing happening on Facebook.
If you’re interested, Seal is selling five autographed CDs, (no word on whether or not Heidi Klum signed them, too). Regular folk are selling things, too, like an XL “ironic” Gangsta T-shirt, and a $20 Starbucks gift card for the bargain price of … $20.
Well, the point is to raise money for the Sierra Club, not to get a bargain.
